Year the company was started: SIXTEEN GRAINS launched in 2022, but our story goes back much further, as our family farm has been growing grains for over 100 years.
Where are the products made? Saskatchewan, Canada
What is the ‘key ingredient’ that makes your product line special? All our products start with premium ingredients from our family farm in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We’re especially proud of our spring wheat, known for its high quality and great flavour. We also source locally grown Saskatoon berry powder from another Saskatchewan farm, to make our Purple Pancake Mix. |

What motivated you to start your company and create the products that we see today? Growing up on the farm, I saw firsthand the quality and care that goes into what we grow, and I wanted to share that with more people. My goal was to create something that would bring families closer together around the table. Whether it’s Sunday morning pancakes with the kids or Friday pizza night with friends, SIXTEEN GRAINS is about more than just ingredients. It’s about connecting farmers with fellow Canadians and creating moments of togetherness that feel real and meaningful.
What are your company’s core values? Family is at the heart of it all. This business was built with the belief that if it benefits our family, it should benefit yours too. We’re here to support real families with real food and bring people together in the process. Reliability matters deeply to us. If you could tell a retailer three things about what makes your brand different, what would they be? First, everything starts with our Canadian-farmed ingredients. We grow our own grains right here on our family farm, so you know exactly where your food is coming from. Second, we're a family business, built on generations of farming experience. That personal touch runs through everything we do. And third, our mixes are designed to be fun and easy for the whole family to use. Whether it’s pancakes on a weekend morning or Friday pizza night, our goal is to make it simple for families to enjoy good food together. What are some of the challenges that you've overcome to bring your business to its current state? One of the biggest challenges in building SIXTEEN GRAINS was simply starting from the ground up. We knew how to grow great grains, but turning that into a modern farm brand was a whole new world. We had to learn everything, including how to design packaging, how to get our story out there, and how to show up on social media.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. I’m incredibly proud of my kids, and one of the most meaningful parts of building SIXTEEN GRAINS is the hope that one day, I’ll be able to pass it on to them. I want them to feel just as connected to the land and the people we serve as I do. |
