Rude Mama was born from a life-changing adventure to Binh Ba, a small island in Central Vietnam. There, we encountered a fiery hot sauce that left a lasting impression—not just for its intense spice, but for the incredible hospitality of the mama who cooked for us. She went above and beyond to cool the heat, offering everything from water to a steaming bowl of broth. That experience stuck with us, and we wanted to bring that same warmth and generosity to every bottle of Rude Mama Hot Sauce, remind you about every “Rude Mama” you have in your life, those who are seemingly sweet but can tear you apart at any time and never let you down.

What are some challenges you've overcome?

Perfecting our signature thick, chunky texture and slow-building heat profile was a journey of passion and persistence that spanned over two years. During this time, we dedicated ourselves to developing a recipe that is not only bursting with flavor but also meets the highest standards of dietary integrity—it’s completely vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free, and dairy-free.

Combining traditional Vietnamese cooking with modern, health-conscious ingredients wasn’t easy. Our aspiration was to create a perfect marriage between the time-honored culinary traditions of Vietnam and the exceptional, locally-grown ingredients from Canada. The result is more than just another hot sauce— it’s our heartfelt interpretation of Vietnamese cuisine, capturing the spirit of home in every jar.

What do you enjoy doing beyond the kitchen as the Founder of Rude Mama?

I love to cook and to eat—and even more, I cherish sharing the joy of good food with everyone around. When I’m not busy experimenting with new flavor combinations in the kitchen, I’m spending quality time with our Shiba Inu, Luna, who is even spicier than our hot sauce. I’m also a passionate seeker of creativity—whether it’s crafting the art of storytelling on my own, binge-watching a great fantasy movie, or losing myself in a book that unveils a whole new world. These moments fuel the creativity and warmth that go into every bottle of Rude Mama.
